River Safari can be arranged at any time of the day on request. All the boats are well equipped with first aid boxes and emergency air tires. Boatmen are well trained expert swimmers from the village. We provide Face towels and bottled water individually. The Safari go through One of the Ramsar wetland and unique coastal ecosystem to discover the unseen beauty of mangroves and its biodiversity. There are few Islands you come across in the safari including the smallest “5 Cent” Island. Among the inhabited islands, Maa Doowa is the largest with human settlements and their lifestyles are decorated with cinnamon industry and fishing.
The Amazing Madu Ganga
Madu River is a one of ramsa wetland that riches in biodiversity. Mangroves trees and other floras and faunas are making a unique natural environment for many species including birds, reptiles, fishes and many more.
The wetland of the Madu River holds a mangrove spread of close to 61 hectares. This natural wonder has proven of the immense bio-ecological value of 14 out of the 24 varieties of mangroves of Sri Lanka, being found in this environment. Amongst this spectacular natural treasure is the Lumnitzera Littoria plant which is variety unique to the plant life found in this system. The World Organization for Nature Conservation has identified 302 varieties of plants in the wetland areas surrounding the Madu River from which 19 are indigenous to this area.
